- So the pressure of coming up with something to talk about every day rubbed the shine off this new toy very quickly. Maybe weekly is where it's at? Or y'know whenever.
- I mentioned the last time we talked that I am a big fan of the Kentucky Derby. Well, the whole Triple Crown really, but the Derby is my favorite. Normally I can root for an underdog or at least be gracious when my picks lose to one but Mine That Bird is a stupid name. It's an odd bias because stupid names are all over the place in horse racing but I can't handle names that make no sense outside of pedigree. Aside from that, it irks me when owners enter horses that may not even compete in all three legs of the Triple Crown. It hasn't been won since before I was born and I'm getting impatient. Same goes for the Portland Trail Blazers winning the championship. I'm starting to be a really pouty fan.
- Last month I ended my one-sided feud with the library and paid their unjust fines. Since then I've become slightly obsessed with Charlaine Harris. I tend to find an author I like and binge read everything they've written in a month. The popularity of the Sookie Stackhouse series (prompted in part, I'm sure, by the True Blood series on HBO. Which you should watch!) has drawn out my usual pace. I'm currently waiting on book 5, Dead as a Doornail in that series and book 3 of the Harper Connelly series. They're junkfood reading at best but immensely satisfying. This genre is full of Little Debbie snack cakes but Harris writes big homemade quadruple chocolate brownies. Hence the binging.

Attempt Number 2
Thursday, March 26, 2009
- So that daily thing didn't work out very well. I can't really say it's because I've been busy either. Yesterday was spent hunting down U2 tickets for my MIL and playing with my new Nintendo DS. I am completely behind the curve on this (and many other things) but the DS has finally showed me the path to sudoku and I am hooked. I'd done a few puzzles before but this time around I'm finding it much more satisfying. I could easily be convinced that it does make you smarter especially into your golden years. I cannot be easily convinced that U2 fans are smarter than Bowie fans.
- My other recent obsession is nail polish. I was a nail biter until fairly recently so while others got this out of their system in their teen years I am closing in on 30 and changing my polish 4 times a week, minimum. Right now I'm wearing Rimmel 60 Seconds in Camouflage, despite the name it's the perfect spring green and there is nothing concealing about it. Yay for slightly warmer weather and bright colors. For a short time I was ready to sing the praises of Sally Hansen's new line of Insta-dri polishes but I'm holding off. The color range is fantastic for drug store product but the formula gets too thick after you've opened the bottle about three times. If you've got an recommendations on the fast dry front I want to hear them.
- Speaking of spring, it is only a matter of time before we get to the good sports. While March Madness has no appeal for me it does mean that baseball season is coming. As soon as the first pitch is thrown I get a little ember of excitement for the Kentucky Derby. Normally I binge on race info the week beforehand but I'm starting early this year and plotting my bets now for the Florida Derby. Even after years of getting abnormally excited over these races I still bet based on the best names. This weekend my money is on Theregoesjojo.

3 things!
Those of you that have known me online for years now know that I love bullet points. Hence the title. As of this very moment I don't have a real theme in mind so all I'm going to promise is three topics every day or at least until I get bored. It may turn out to be more than three but three is my goal.
- At the moment I am considering giving up my beloved LUSH products. They've created a limited edition bubble bar in part of their campaign against the Canadian seal hunt. The proceeds from this project are going to Sea Shepherd Conservation society. Have you watched Whale Wars? Even when I can agree with Sea Shepherd I find their actions irresponsible. I cannot support a group that is willing to put the lives of people at risk, and I'm not just talking about the marine mammal hunters. After a few episodes of Whale Wars I was flabbergasted at the risk they took with the lives of their own crew. I also find the facts as presented by the CBC are more credible than that of Sea Shepherd (beware graphic images). As an omnivore I feel it would be hypocritical of me to support a complete ban on the hunt but I'm all for making it as humane as possible. The vast effort to ban what is a comparatively small matter would be better spent on the much larger and much more disturbing issue of cleaning up the mainstream meat industry. I won't be purchasing that particular product but ethically do I want to support a company that endorses a group I strongly disagree with? If they had chosen to donate the proceeds to Greenpeace I might have even bought one.
- Last August I decided to take part in the city's community garden project. I have been blathering about it ever since and the season does not even start until mid-May. Originally I had grand dreams of making my own strawberry freezer jam. I've always relied on grandmas for my yearly supply but as I get older and they get more scarce I figure I should probably learn how to do it myself. That particular dream was dashed when I learned the difference between an annual and a perennial. So I'll buy the berries for jam but I am going to grow my own peanuts! Damn Skippy.
- As this is a new endeavor I spent last night tossing and turning and thinking of something to say. FYI, I didn't end up going with any of those ideas. All of that pondering led to strange dreams. I had a nightmare that Golden Girls was remade with Miley Cyrus, Vanessa Hudgens, and Taylor Swift. Jenny Garth played Sophia. In 10 years I want credit if it actually happens.
